Recently you may have seen an article about how pay for programmers and people working in AI in the UK has been growing exceptionally. Meanwhile, at the other end of things increases in the minimum wage over the last five years have left many lower paid occupations with significant percentage increases as well

What do things look like when you can get an overview of all occupations? The graph below shows the percentage increase in national hourly pay for a comprehensive list of occupations, and the hourly rate they were getting in April 2025.

While there are not many occupations that pay as much as software development that have had the same % increase over the last five years, the push effect of raising the national minimum wage can clearly be seen in the lower paid occupations.
